We talk all things Africa at WhyAfrica’s networking events
WhyAfrica kick off 2025 on a high note at its WhyAfrica networking event.
By Leon Louw founder of WhyAfrica and editor of the WhyAfrica magazine.
That was the central theme at WhyAfrica and NSDV’s networking event held in Johannesburg, South Africa on Thursday last week. The aim of these events is to keep members updated about what is happening on the ground in Africa.
According to Methembeni Moyo, Head of Africa Practice/Construction and Mining Law at NSDV and Zimbabwe expert, the mining and construction sectors in Zimbabwe are gaining momentum despite several challenges facing the country.
Methembeni joined WhyAfrica on the Zimbabwe and Mozambique legs of the annual WhyAfrica Road Trip through Africa in July/August last year.
In my presentation I gave some pointers of what to expect on the ground when doing business in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania and Kenya.
The main lesson learned when doing these overland trips, is that you do not really know what is happening in Africa if you do not go out there and get your boots on the ground.
The full 2024 WhyAfrica Road Trip report is available to purchase in WhyAfrica’s online shop (.https://lnkd.in/eGZZn9Kb). The report looks at opportunities and challenges in the countries that we visited during the 2024 WhyAfrica Road Trip.
Africa and critical minerals remain relevant
In his talk at the event Joshua Kilani from Xpotential Mining Serives(XMS) and Remote Exploration Services (RES) said that Africa remains on the map and that the continent is becoming more and more relevant because of its critical mineral deposits.
Joshua travelled with WhyAfrica for a few days during the first ever WhyAfrica Road Trip in 2022.
The NSDV/WhyAfrica networking event was once again well attended and is becoming one of the great mingling sessions for those companies and entrepreneurs doing business in Africa.
Remember all WhyAfrica partners, members, sponsors and advertisers can attend these events for free. They also get free access to all books and research reports published by WhyAfrica, as well as joining the WhyAfrica Road Trip WhatsApp channel.

Thank you NSDV for another fantastic and successful night, we look forward to the next one!
