WhyAfrica 2023 Road Trip Report

WhyAfrica 2023 Road Trip Report

We undertook this year’s WhyAfrica Road Trip through Namibia, Zambia, Angola, Malawi, Botswana, and South Africa in the winter months of July and August 2023. This overland trip would be very challenging in summer because some roads, especially in Western Zambia and Angola, will be inaccessible in the rainy season, even with a 4X4 vehicle.
The aim of this specific report is to give you a general idea of our day- to- day activities during the trip and to give you some insight about on the ground conditions of doing business in Africa, including road conditions, and crossing borders.

We have focussed on specific projects and developments in the following sectors and disciplines:

  • Mining
  • Agriculture
  • Infrastructure
  • Water management
  • ESG
  • Energy
  • Environmental management
  • Conservation
  • Tourism
  • Climate change

The objective of the report is to give you the background of where we were and what we focussed on so that you can interact and start a conversation with us. Please make notes and compile a list of questions as you go along and contact us to set up a meeting so that we can give you a more detailed breakdown of your specific interests.

This trip would not have been possible without the support of our premier sponsor Remote Exploration Services (RES), our silver sponsor NSDV and our bronze sponsor ESG Africa Conference. Thank you! And a special thanks to Charl van Rensburg from RES who travelled with me through Angola.
