Looking at Botswana through Botswana-tinted glasses

Many argue that Botswana is the friendliest country in Africa to do business in.

But seeing the country through the blue, white and black of the Botswana flag can colour one’s view.

However, even without being biased, Botswana does make it into my top three African countries to travel to and to do business in.

An unfiltered look at Botswana

Yesterday, WhyAfrica crossed the Groot and Klein Marico, those legendary Bushveld Rivers on the way from Johannesburg in South Africa to Gaborone, the capital city of Botswana. For the next two weeks, we’ll be taking an unfiltered look at Botswana, without bias or tinted glasses.

Botswana remains a top investment destination in Africa, but the country is facing considerable headwinds.

Dealing with challenges

Follow us on the 2026 WhyAfrica RES Road Trip through Botswana and Namibia for the next 35 days as we discover how the Botswana people and investors in Botswana are dealing with the country’s most severe challenges since independence.

By the way, I love the Botswana flag.

The cool blue in Botswana’s flag symbolises water and rain, the white and black stands for racial harmony and peace, and the black stripe bordered by white signifies unity between people of different backgrounds.
