WhyAfrica Pick of the Week is Ankh Resources Wadi Dara gold-copper project in Egypt
Egypt continues to strengthen its position as one of Africa’s most exciting mineral exploration destinations.
Ankh Resources’ Wadi Dara is located in the prospective Arabian-Nubian Shield, one of the world’s most exciting geological belts for gold and base metals.
Egypt’s extensive mining reforms over the last few years are impressive. The government has modernised its mining regime and made it easier for international exploration companies to enter the country.
Results confirm potential
Ankh Resources recently completed its maiden 17-hole diamond drilling programme at Wadi Dara, with results confirming the project’s potential.
The company drilled 6,402m across Target Area A, with 14 of the 17 holes returning significant gold and/or copper mineralisation which is an impressive success rate for an early-stage prospect drilling programme.
Among the standout intersections were 15 m grading 1.66 g/t gold and 1.12% copper, including 2 m at 11.15 g/t gold and 4.86% copper, together with multiple high-grade gold-copper intervals that confirm a robust mineralised system.
Drilling has established more than 600m of continuous strike within Target Area A, while geological mapping indicates mineralisation extends approximately 4km across Target Areas A and B.
Importantly, the vast majority of this prospective corridor remains untested, with mineralisation also remaining open at depth below the deepest hole drilled to 526.8m.
Drilling improves understanding of mineralisation
“The completion of our maiden 17-hole diamond drilling programme marks an important milestone for Ankh and has materially advanced our understanding of the structural and lithological controls on mineralisation at Wadi Dara,” says Ankh Resources CEO Mostafa Talaat. “The results provide a strong foundation from which to design a more targeted Phase 2 programme, including follow-up drilling along the considerable strike extent that remains untested.”
