Crushing historic rock provides jobs in Stilfontein 

The Witwatersrand basin continues giving. Maybe not in the form of pure gold as it has done on the prolific gold belt south-west of Johannesburg in the past, but the remnants of those legendary deposits are still providing communities in the area with some work.

The OMV-Raubex Stilfontein operation close to Klerksdorp in the North-West Province of South Africa crushes old rock unearthed from deep within the belly of the earth as waste more than 60 years ago, turns it into aggregate, and in the process provides more than 140 jobs. It is impressive to say the least and with OMV planning a few strategic expansions, it is something worth keeping an eye on. More about it later. We are heading to the town of Coperton and Prieska today to discover what all the fuss is about in the Northern Cape.
