Africa still on the map

Regardless of current market turmoil, Africa remains on the map for investors with an appetite for risk.

By Leon Louw founder of WhyAfrica and editor of the WhyAfrica magazine.

Despite global economic and political turmoil Africa presents a range of opportunities for those investors with an appetite for risk.

Earlier this year the African Development Bank (AfDB) predicted that East Africa will be the fastest-growing region on the continent in 2025, with GDP growth expected to rise from 4.4% in 2024 to 5.3% in 2025 and 6.1% in 2026.

According to a report by the AfDB countries like Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Kenya are expected to contribute significantly to this growth. South Sudan, despite the fears of another conflict brewing, is forecasted to be the world’s fastest-growing economy, rebounding from a contraction of 26.4% in 2024 to a 27.2% expansion in 2025 due to resumed oil production.

Uganda’s growth will be fuelled by public investments in oil and infrastructure, while Rwanda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Kenya will benefit from private investments in energy and mining.

Seychelles was the best performing African country in the 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) with a score of 72. The CPI flagged Tanzania and Côte d’Ivoire as significant improvers.

An abundance of natural resources

Africa is without a doubt the next frontier of global growth and productivity. The African continent has an unrivalled natural resource endowment, with the youngest population of all continents.
